Living in a small town has its perks, but not many opportunities. When I moved to Knoxville to attend the University of Tennessee, I was definitely out of my element. The huge class sizes, distance from my family and few familiar faces made for a rough first semester. Then I started exploring the idea of being a news reporter. I fell in love with telling the stories of people whose voices aren't often heard.
My first reporting job was for a station in Alabama. Being a Tennessee girl in Tide Country was certainly an adjustment! I was the reporter in the South Alabama Bureau covering Butler, Crenshaw and Covington Counties. Being a one-girl news team is difficult, but I learned so much about the business and myself as well.
Now I work in the Commonwealth of Virginia, at WFXR News in Roanoke. I cover the unique stories of people in the Roanoke Valley and much of SW Virginia. I am truly enjoying my new city and the news I'm covering here.
If you have any story ideas, please let me know! Also, if you see me out reporting, do not hesitate to say hello or stop to chat. I love to meet and talk to new people!
